This week has been crazy, stressful and tiring. I've not had a lot of time to read so it's a good thing I'm a book or two ahead. Whew.
The Real Macaw by Donna Andrews is part of the Meg Langslow series and just as fun and entertaining as the previous books. While up for a 2am feeding, Meg hears noises from the living room downstairs. At first she thinks someone is up watching Animal Planet but soon discovers her ground floor is overrun by dogs, cats, birds and everything in between.
With the town out of money, the local animal shelter was being told it has to repeal it's no-kill policy and Meg's grandfather, father and brother decide to take action with a few other animal lovers and "liberate" all the animals from the shelter. But something goes awry, the guy that was supposed to transport them to another county never made it, and for good reason, he was dead.
Who murdered him and why? Was it about the animals? Or was one of the many ladies that he dated jealous to extreme? Did it have anything to do with his snooping into the town's finances? Twist and turns abound until all is reveals.
