Hotel No Tell by Daphne Uviller is the second in a series. If you remember, I read the first (Super in the City) and wasn't sure I'd hunt down the next. However, this one just happened to find me so I read it. What can I say. I actually liked this second book better than the first. The main character, Zephyr, was more mature and although her imagination ran away with her once or twice, it wasn't as out of the ball park crazy as the last book. I felt that Zephyr was much more a "real" character this time rather than a caricature of what a 20 something on the verge of 30 something, single, female in NYC should be.
Zephyr, now working as a junior detective in the NYC Special Investigations Unit, is assigned to work undercover at a local hotel where the owner suspects someone is embezzling funds from him. The Special Investigations Unit is involved because the city puts up visitors on official business there and thus they are losing money as well. Zephyr ends up on what seems to be a wild goose chase that has nothing to do with the case at hand...but does it? I guess you'll have to read to find out.
